first_imgArsenal hero Merson: Emery must take blame for Watford resultby Freddie Taylora month agoSend to a friendShare the loveArsenal hero Paul Merson says Unai Emery must take responsibility for Sunday’s draw with Watford. The Gunners blew a two-goal lead to draw 2-2 at Vicarage Road, but Merson thinks the result could’ve been better had if not been for Emery.”I’ve got to put it on the manager,” former Arsenal star Merson told Sky Sports .”People will say there were experienced players on the pitch, but he’s the manager and they’re paid to listen to him. You can’t have a manager give instructions on how to play and then they go out and do their own thing. There would be mutiny, so they’re listening to him and he’s not getting it right.”His substitutions weren’t right. They needed to keep the ball in that game but they kept giving it away cheaply. The only player who didn’t give the ball away all game was Mesut Ozil. You just knew that Arsenal needed to score another goal but he was bringing youngsters on in a game when you’re under pressure.” About the authorFreddie TaylorShare the loveHave your saylast_img read more

Report: Jalen Hurts Has “Won The Coaches And Team” At Alabama

first_imgAlabama's Bryant-Denny Stadium during a day gameInstagramCould Alabama start a true freshman at quarterback this season? According to Shannon B. Terry, Jalen Hurts has “won the coaches and team” heading into the 2016 season.Terry, the founder of 247Sports.com, took to Twitter on Monday afternoon to discuss Alabama’s quarterback situation heading into this year’s campaign. He notes that junior Cooper Bateman is “trending down”, redshirt freshman Blake Barnett is “improving” and true freshman Jalen Hurts has “won” the team over.Terry implies that even if Hurts isn’t named the starter at the beginning of the season, he expects him to be the quarterback by mid-season. That’s huge news, considering Hurts’ lack of experience.(1 of 2) #Alabama QB Bateman is trending down this fall, Barnett is improving and Hurts has won the coaches and team at this point.— Shannon B. Terry (@sbterry247) August 22, 2016(2 of 2) Only real decision 4 UA coaches is what is best way to develop Hurts? unless there’s a sig change, he will be the QB by mid-season— Shannon B. Terry (@sbterry247) August 22, 2016For the past two seasons, Alabama has turned to seniors to lead the team behind center. In 2014, Blake Sims helped the Crimson Tide reach the College Football Playoff. In 2015, it was Jake Coker leading the team to a national championship. Before that, it was AJ McCarron taking snaps for three seasons.Hurts getting the nod would be a surprise, but it’s never wise to doubt Nick Saban. It’ll be interesting to see who gets the call against USC.last_img read more

CBS Sports Named College Football’s Worst Team So Far

(Photo by Ronald Martinez/Getty Images)Every team aspires to crack the College Football Top 25 polls. It is probably more important, however, to stay out of the worst teams list.CBS Sports just published its new “Bottom 25,” and one team remains on top…or, well, at the bottom. The UTEP Miners are 0-5 under new head coach Dana Dimel, coming off of an 0-12 campaign. Previous head coach Sean Kugler resigned after five games in the 2017 season. The Miners have lost by an average of 17.6 points per game, including a 30-10 loss to FCS opponent Northern Arizona. If there’s a bright side, the last two games have been the closest of the year, with a 27-20 loss to New Mexico State and 30-21 loss to fellow ‘Bottom 25’ squad UTSA.Here’s what CBS Sports’ Tom Fornelli has to say about UTEP football:UTEP showed that Bottom 25 champions are Bottom 25 champions for a reason in its loss to UTSA last week, and now it has a date with a North Texas team that’s angry after a loss to Louisiana Tech.North Texas can score points in bunches, so that could get ugly. After the Miners, a pair of underperforming Power Five programs pop up. 0-4 Nebraska is at No. 2, after a loss to Purdue. At No. 3 is 0-4 UCLA, which has looked really rough so far under Chip Kelly.Arkansas, North Carolina, Oregon State, and Rutgers are among the other big programs to pop up. (Photo by Brian Blanco/Getty Images)A former Alabama assistant coach took to Twitter on Thursday night to address a report that he left the university without telling head coach Nick Saban.According to a report from Bruce Feldman of the Athletic, Dan Enos left Alabama to assume the offensive coordinator position at Miami, but did not tell Saban about his plans. That left Saban asking “Where the f*&# is Dan” at a team meeting following Enos’ departure. The report suggested Enos “ghosted” Saban and didn’t tell him about his decision to join Manny Diaz’s coaching staff at Miami.Enos claims that’s not true. According to his response on Twitter, Enos told Alabama about his plans, but he does not mention whether or not he personally addressed the matter with coach Saban.“I would never leave an employer without telling them I was doing so. No ghosting here. Nothing but respect for CNS and Alabama. Bottom line, business is business and it was time for me to exit.
