77 more police cadets graduate in East Timor UN

UNTAET said the new officers — who attended classes on human rights, community policing, firearms and self-defence — had previously served in the Indonesian police and had all been vetted in consultation with the East Timorese community.In another development, UNTAET announced that a UN peacekeeper from Australia was wounded yesterday in the right forearm following a machete attack by a group of civilians close to Hera, near Dili. The peacekeeper was evacuated to the UN hospital in Dili where he is in a stable condition. UNTAET says that the incident has been referred to the UN Civilian Police (CIVPOL) for investigation.
