India vs Pakistan, Champions Trophy 2017: Mohammad Amir reminded me of myself, says Wasim Akram

first_imgMohammad Amir had had a mediocre time at the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 before he was ruled out of the semi-final against England. The 25-year-old pacer had went wicketless against India in the teams’ tournament opener in Edgbaston two weeks ago and against South Africa at the same venue three days later. However, a change of venue worked and he picked up 2/53 and scored an unbeaten 28 against Sri Lanka in the final league match to steer Pakistan into the semis. But Pakistan were dealt a huge blow ahead of the encounter against the hosts and pre-tournament favourites.Amir was, however, declared fit to play before the final against India and he came back with a bang. On a flat pitch, India were chasing a mammoth 339 to defend the Champions Trophy and many felt it would be an even contest. India’s batting, Pakistan’s bowling and a flat deck. But Amir had other plans. He first removed Rohit Sharma for a duck in the first over before inducing a false stroke from the greatest chaser in limited-overs cricket, Virat Kohli. However, the edge was grassed by Azhar Ali at first slip. But luck smiled on Amir and Pakistan in the next very delivery when the Indian captain could not control another peach and the ball ballooned to Shadab Khan at point.India were in tatters at that stage but Amir was not done. In a sensational opening burts, he also removed the tournament’s highest scorer, Shikhar Dhawan and India were tottering at 33/3 after nine overs.advertisementFormer cricketers were in awe of Amir’s mind-numbing spell and the legendary Wasim Akram perhaps paid the young bowler the ultimate compliment by comparing him to himself. Here’s what some of the greatest cricketers tweeted about Amir’s show. What a spell from Mohammad Amir, he’s a very special talent. #CT17 #PAKvIND- Tom Moody (@TomMoodyCricket) June 18, 2017You little beauty @TheAmirOfficiaI reminded me of my days .- Wasim Akram (@wasimakramlive) June 18, 2017That’s what a champion bowler does.
